Refundid – Designing Scalable Foundations for Australia’s Instant Refund Startup
From late 2022 to mid 2024, I led design for Refundid through a long-term engagement with We Discover, helping shape both the product and the broader brand as the company scaled, from designing their merchant platform to slide decks, social templates, and a high-impact promo video for their Country Road partnership.
This work helped set the stage for Refundid’s expansion into global markets including NZ and the US. I also supported a junior designer during this period.

When I joined the engagement, Refundid's initial brand and consumer experience had already been established by my team mates. My focus was on the merchant side of the product, which had yet to be fully designed and systematised.
As Refundid continued to grow, the team also needed brand design support across various marketing and promotional touchpoints, including high-visibility announcements and campaigns with major retail partners.
With a lean internal team, the goal was to provide scalable, self-serve design solutions (templates for marketing assets they could reuse, design systems, etc.) that would set them up for long-term success.

Merchant experience and design system
I took ownership of the merchant-side product, designing core experiences and building out a design system that could support ongoing development. This included creating components and patterns that aligned with the established brand but introduced the structure and clarity needed for a growing product.
At the same time, I mentored a junior designer on the team, adjusting my approach to better delegate, coach, and support their growth. It was a valuable opportunity to continue refining my leadership style.
Scalable EDM templates
One of the more deceptively complex tasks was creating email templates for Refundid’s marketing team. While the brief may have sounded simple, the challenge was in making the templates scalable, editable, and modular (particularly for a team with limited Figma skills).
We delivered a flexible system of components that allowed the team to plug and play different layouts and content blocks for different types of announcements. I leaned on principles I’d observed during my time at Zip, where modularity and scenario planning were critical to scaling EDMs at volume.
Social collateral and campaign content
Building on the same approach, I designed a system for social media collateral that allowed the team to launch branded posts without needing to redesign from scratch each time. I drew inspiration from other successful campaigns and adapted those ideas to suit Refundid’s tone and visual identity.
One of the standout deliverables here was a promo video I created to announce the partnership with Country Road. It marked a key milestone for the business and was one of their most visible pieces of branded content to date.
Pitch decks and support materials
Alongside core product and marketing work, I also supported the team in refreshing pitch decks and investor-facing assets, helping bring clarity and consistency to how Refundid told its story to external stakeholders.
